Victoria's Story

Victoria
Age 16
Vermont Children’s Hospital at Fletcher Allen
Congenital Intestinal Malrotation

Victoria is an articulate, outgoing teenager. She loves soccer, dancing, singing and immersing herself in projects that help others. All of this while staying on the honor roll in high school.

When she was 6 years old, Victoria was stricken periodically with intense abdominal pains. After she was seen several times at the emergency room, she was transferred to Vermont Children’s Hospital at Fletcher Allen. Exhaustive testing revealed that Victoria had congenital intestinal malrotation, a condition in which the main vein and artery are switched. This places her intestines at risk, and any illness or injury inflames her stomach and intestinal wall.

Though she’s at risk for requiring emergency corrective surgery, Victoria remains continually positive and involved. She actively seeks opportunities to speak out and help others.

She implemented an anti-bullying program in her middle school, and every year she raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Radiothon campaign to help other children in need. She is also currently working on her own CMN Hospitals fundraiser, Victoria’s Big Change Roundup.
